Poems of Thobile Maso

A Matter To Be Told

A poem by Thobile Maso©2002 Thobile Maso

You have carried me in darkness to see the light
Heavily breathing until the hour arrives
Alone in pain here I came in the strange world
Breasting and folding your loving arms around me
You are the source of hope, the space of dreams
The share vision of active virtue

You always care

You are the beginning of life
You brought me in this world naked
Bathed me with laughter and love
Taught me the first step in life

Singing a song of soul and spirit

Hear my cry of your emancipation
In the world of power stereotyped men
Where women are treated as things
As things that carry babies into term
As things that nourished them for survival

Respect women never neglect them

You are between a rock and the hard place
No one can give or take away personhood
Women and men together can move the great stone
Men be sick and tired with women

Enough! is enough!

This matter has to be told
