We Plead Not Guilty

A poem by Thobile Maso©2002 Thobile Maso

Privatisation! The pillar poison of capitalism
Children are dying crying every day
How can they survive
living in a miserable situation
The spoon is hungry
Dishes are making noisy in the kitchen
Please come out do something
Nokub’ yiphelelanga
Fighting privatisation
We plead not guilty

Where is drinking of our nature
Where is our daily bread
Reflection of trends
Is it forward gear, is it reverse gear
Baphel’ abantu

Fighting privatisation
We plead not guilty

Why fuming fiddling froging around
Is it commercialisation
Is it privatisation
Is it joint venture
Who is the horse, who is the rider
Oh! Baphin’ abantu

Fighting privatisation
We plead not guilty

Listen to the voice of wisdom
Listen to the cries of whirlwind
Where is the people’s organs
Where is power of the workers
Zigzag left, zigzag right, zigzag centre
On the left – people are dying because
they have nothing to eat

On the right – people are dying because
they eat too much
Confusion in the capitalist society

Baphel’ abantu – Baphin’ abantu

Waar is die mense?
Where are the people?
Fighting privatisation – we plead not guilty
