Nuclear Blues

A song by Kevin Minchin©1979 Kevin Minchin

- [play]

Well Malcolm Frazer grazier, is a slick MP
But he's messing around with a negative energy
He wants to see a nuclear industry before it's too late
Cos their greedy for electrons in his electorate.

Well Lang Hancock wants uranium, he's pushing hard
He's offered to store nuclear waste in his own back yard.
Well I would like to see that radiation burn his bum
but I wouldn't trust the bugger with plutonium.

Well Ranger is the place where they can dig the stuff
The Rainbow Serpent warned us but we'll call his bluff.
Dreamtime might be OK for the Aborigine
But it don't turn on the circuits of my colour TV.

Well young Dougy Anthony, he's got the right idea
He says we'll give the boongs some cash and then we're in the clear.
We'll force them if they won't be bribed to sign our pact
Well it's a little messier but it's in the Act.

Well there'll be big bang type theory until the end of time.
Take a two bob watch, and count to nine.
But if there's a nuclear power station built behind your home
You'd be better off counting your chromosomes.

Well they tell us nuclear safeguards are as tight as can be
So says Sir Philip Baxter and the AEC.
They sound quite authoritative but it's quite absurd
Just go ask the mutants up in Harrisburg.

Well Malcolm Frazer grazier is a slick MP
But he's messing round with a negative energy
He wants to see a nuclear industry before it's too late
Cos their greedy for electrons in his electorate.

Notes

Many thanks to Kevin Minchin for permission to add this song to the Union Songs collection

Kevin was singing these songs in eateries in Glebe and Balmain in Sydney. Nuclear Blues is the only political song in the recorded session and is very much of the period!
