Union Songs

Does my employer own me

A song by David G. Hurlburt©David G. Hurlburt

The President and the Labor Department want us to work more,
While the unemployed are knocking at the business man's door.
Flexibility, 10 hour days and eighty hours in two weeks.
Throw away the 8 hour days and the 40 hour weeks!

Well, it should be illegal to work anyone more than eight.
Hire some one else, do not make me work more than eight.
You get only eight hours for work and i get the rest.
To cultivate my better nature, live life at it's best.

I am not a wage slave and you do not own my life!
I want to spend time with my children and wife!
The unemployed are waiting right out the front gate.
That is why we must keep the penelty rate!

Time and one half is not enough of a fine!
To force employers not to work overtime,
And to hire more workers on the 40 hour week!
Full employment for all is what we will seek.
