State Of Hysteria

- [play]

A Song by Aidan Jolly©Aidan Jolly 2008

Everyone knew he was guilty
Everyone swore they could see
Wires under his jacket
He looked like a bomber to me
Everyone said he was running
He obviously wasn't from here
He must have done something illegal
What it might be is not clear

Such actions are for our protection
The innocent have nothing to fear
Everyone said he was running
Let all your doubt disappear
They said he ignored all the warnings
He left the police with no choice
Everyone knew he was guilty
Everyone speaks with one voice

We need more laws to protect us
We should never forget
The authorities know what they're doing
When our way of life's under threat
It's no longer right to ask questions
We should not seek to excuse
Causes do not concern us
We have too much to lose

Aidan writes:

If there is a theme to these songs it's about people on the move ...people have always moved, and always will, whether from one side of the world to the other, or from one part of a country
to another. What kind of a world would it be if everyone stayed where they were born, or where they were put? Everywhere the walls go up, the borders are drawn, and the cameras are there to track us all as we travel up and down the motorways, the airports, the stations ... somewhere in some vast data-centre, there'll be a red light flashing just for you. So make sure you have nothing to hide. Live quietly. And never ask who is watching ... or why ...
